Pioneering a New Model for Health and Wellness in Rural America

Envisioning a place for patients to be well

It’s easy to think of small-town America as a place where a thriving sense of community naturally leads to happy, healthy lives. What many of us don’t realize is how often public health in rural communities has almost no framework. There is often a scarcity of resources, providers, facilities, and equipment to properly support and improve the health of hard-working, everyday Americans.

Rural Americans are more likely to die early from:

  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Unintentional injuries
  • Chronic lower respiratory disease (CLRD)
  • Stroke

“At Summit Pacific, our goal is simple: healthcare should help people live well, not just treat them when they’re unwell.” – Josh Martin, CEO.

Summit Pacific is working to change that, and it starts by creating a new model of care – one that emphasizes prevention, wellness, and community. The expansion continues to focus on sustainability by adding a Podiatry Clinic and soon opening a Wound Care Center to serve more patients through additional specialties.

What is Summit doing that is so Different?

By focusing on whole-person care, we are working to address some of the underlying causes of poor health and instill long-term wellness to create real transformation. In 2019, we opened our Wellness Center – a facility that integrates primary care, fitness, nutrition, and education. Summit has also focused on expanding access to behavioral health, substance use recovery, and youth wellness programs.

In October of 2025, Summit celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of a hospital expansion that features 20 private Acute Care Unit (ACU) rooms, each designed to provide a calm, dignified healing environment. These rooms also support Summit Pacific’s new Restorative Care Program, which enables patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery to receive rehabilitative “swing bed” care locally – close to family, friends, and home. The Restorative Care Program delivers 24-hour, in-hospital skilled nursing care complemented by physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Each patient’s progress is supported by regular meetings with the care team to coordinate treatment and plan for a smooth transition home.

Partnering with Summit to Serve Our Rural Communities

Both the Wellness Center and the new hospital expansion were made possible through the fundraising support of Summit Pacific Medical Foundation and the generosity and partnership of businesses, organizations, and individuals. As we grow to meet the needs of our community, we’d like to invite you to partner with us in pioneering this new model for health and wellness. Join us to improve healthcare delivery and redesign. Our goal is to provide the very best care we can to ensure that mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends, and neighbors get to enjoy longer, fuller lives.

We are proud to serve rural America, and we’ll keep working every day to build the healthiest community in the Nation!
